2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs 2017 Lexus LX vs 2017 Acura MDX

When more space matters, shoppers look to the three-row SUV to do it all. Capable of hauling large families and loads of gear, drivers appreciate the versatility these vehicles have to offer. When comparing some of the heavy hitters in this space, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs 2017 Lexus LX vs 2017 Acura MDX are often at the top of the pack. While each of these vehicles offers space and functionality, some may be a better fit than others for luxury SUV shoppers.

The 2017 Acura MDX offers a significantly lower starting MSRP than the other two SUVs. Unfortunately, the lower price tag is noticeable in the 2017 Acura MDX’s outdated interior and clunky performance. Expect a bumpy ride on uneven terrain, and a jerky cruise control. The 2017 Acura MDX is better suited for shoppers who rely on space over performance and cost-saving over luxury. In contrast, the interiors of both the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS and the 2017 Lexus LX will impress with high-end finishes. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS’s interior is the most thoughtful. It is the only SUV of the three that offers room for full-size adults in the rear seats. It also offers the largest cargo space with 93.8 cubic feet of space when the second and third row of seats is folded down.

Towing Capabilities in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Weekend warriors looking to tow a camper across the state or their boat to the lake need a vehicle that makes their adventures possible. For many drivers in the three-row crossover SUV market the towing capacities between brands and models can help make or break the purchase of a vehicle. The three models discussed in this comparison offer differing levels of capability. The 2017 Acura MDX is by far the worst performer in this category. Owners will need to purchase a separate trailer hitch kit that after installation will haul up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. An additional purchase (on top of the trailer hitch kit) of a trailer hitch ATF cooler kit can increase the hauling load to up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. The 2017 Lexus LX offers a more palatable 7,000 max towing capacity when properly equipped and the trailer hitch comes standard. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS will offer the best towing performance. Properly equipped it will offer 7,500 pounds and also comes standard with towing features. Always make sure to check the weight of any boats, campers, equipment etc. you wish to haul against the towing capacities capable in a vehicle before purchase.
